Getting Started: Obtaining Your API Key

Prerequisites:

  1. A Google account

Steps:

  1. Create or Sign in to a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) account: Go to Google Cloud Platform Console and sign in with your Google account. If you don't have a GCP account, you can create one by clicking the Create project button.

  2. Enable the Perspective API: In the GCP Console, go to the APIs & Services section. Select Credentials from the left menu and click Create Credentials. Select API Key as the credential type and click Create.

  3. Request Access to the API: Once your API key is created, you need to request access to the Perspective API. This step is necessary because the API is still in beta testing. To request access, click the Perspective API link in the APIs and Services section. Scroll down to the "Request Access" button and click it.

  4. Fill out the Access Request Form: A form will appear asking you to enter information about your project and how to use the API. Please fill out the form carefully and submit.

  5. Wait for Approval: Google will review your request and notify you via email if access is granted. This may take several days.

  6. Generate the API Key: Once your request is approved, you can generate an API key. Go to the APIs & Services section and select Credentials from the left menu. Click the API key you created earlier and click View. Copy your API key to a safe location.

  7. Secure the API Key: It's important to keep your API key confidential. Do not share publicly or save in plain text. Consider using a server-side proxy to protect your keys and only expose them through authorized requests.
